Holiday Skin Care Gifts for Desert Living

Holiday Skin Care Gifts for Desert Living

CC SunscreenHealth

You may have lived in the desert a long time and this means you’ve probably found some real hacks to keeping your skin moisturized and protected.  This dry climate and intense sun mean it’s time to get serious about skin health and sun protection. Now that the holidays are just around the corner, it’s a great time to share some of the discoveries you have found about skin care with those you love. However, if you are still looking for tips or want to gift excellent skin beauty this holiday season, here is a gift guide to help support, protect and moisturize the skin of you and those you love, this holiday season.

If you don’t know exactly what to get for you or someone you love, here’s what you need to know about how a dry, desert climate can affect your skin and what skin care products you should use to help keep your complexion hydrated for the holidays and beyond.

Facial cleanser

If you are from back east, you may have found a foaming facial cleanser does the trick—but the air is much drier here. Swap out your foaming facial cleanser for a gentler option, such a micellar water. Micellar water is a skin care product that aids in cleansing and toning the skin. It promotes skin hydration, removes dirt and oil, and is suitable for all skin types, including those particularly sensitive. It’s powered by tiny micelles—oil molecules—that act like a magnet to help lift dirt, oil, and makeup up and away from the skin.

Moisturizer

Show your love by gifting moist and excellent skin this holiday season. Once your skin is cleaned it’s time to lock in moisture. There are amazing products with humectant ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, butylene glycol, glycerin, honey, aloe vera and many more. They sound great but, in the desert,, they don’t do much. Humectants are ingredients that draw moisture from the air and infuse it back into your skin, but in dry climates they can end up being flat. Use an oil-based moisturizer instead for long-lasting hydration.

Broad-spectrum sunscreen

Give the gift of sun protection. We can’t stress the importance of sunscreen enough in the desert. Hot long dry days means damage from UV rays which can cause premature skin aging and skin cancer. Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that you wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily as directed. Make sure you apply it every, one to two hours and limit your amount of time in the sun. this is especially important between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun is highest in the sky. Many people think that they are less at risk for sun damage in the fall and winter, but this is not the case. The sun still holds all the power and potential skin damage of UV rays, year-round, so don’t let your guard down on this important key to skin care and health.

Facial mist

What Is a Face Mist? Besides a great skincare gift, it’s just like it sounds. There are lots of different types out there, and for the most part they deliver an instant hit of hydration with ingredients like vitamins, extracts, and essential oils. A facial mist can add a pick-me-up when it feels particularly dry to keep you looking poised and glowing throughout the day.

Lip balm

Anyone who has spent time in the desert knows how fast your lips can go from feeling lush to dry and cracked. Don’t go anywhere in the desert without your hydrating lip balm out of reach!  Make sure you invest in a lip balm with UV protection to protect them from the sun. Get your loved one a year supply of lip balm this season!
